The Graduate Program in Language Technologies (PPGTEL) is structured around a Concentration Area titled “Language Technologies: texts, meaning, and innovation,” which is linked to two Research Lines: (1) Languages, contexts, and literacies, and (2) Literatures, subjects, and social practices. Thus, our overarching object of study is defined—languages and their technologies—along with the material through which we investigate them—texts in their diversity—and our general objective: to train researchers to study the production of meaning, innovations, and uses of language, considering language itself as a technology and emphasizing new (multi)literacies, in order to contribute especially to society and basic education. More specifically, PPGTEL aims to train researchers to investigate the relationships between languages and the teaching of Portuguese and foreign languages within the scope of symbolic technology, as well as to develop proposals for improving education and society in general, particularly with regard to the social uses of language in digital, formal, informal, and other environments. The approach to language technologies in this curriculum is cross-cutting, meaning that it is present in both research lines, in the courses offered, and preferably in the research conducted. This constitutes one of the innovations of this Postgraduate Program.
